Game #2

The second game was played against F.C. Orange in West Long Branch, NJ. There was considerable disorganization on the home team's part, including giving us wrong directions and a false starting time.

We were told the game would start at 12:00. Our entire team was at the field at 11:00, after getting lost because we were given a completely wrong address. By 11:45 we were getting concerned that no one from the opposing team had shown, and there were no nets for the game. Our captain, Joshua Rodsan, called the manager for the other team to ask what was going on. The manager said he was on his way, and when Josh asked about the nets, the manager told him to ask the team who played before us to borrow their nets! First of all, the home team should come with their own equipment, and second of all, you do not ask the visiting team to go find nets when you slack off. A player from the previous game was nice enough to let us use his own personal nets. He helped us set them up, which again is supposed to be the home team's responsibility.

The manager for the opposing team finally showed up at 12:26, and informed us that the game was actually supposed to start at 12:30, he just told us 12 so we would be sure to be there on time. We were misinformed about the starting time so we would not be late, and yet he shows up 4 minutes before kickoff.

If this wasn't enough, the referee had disappeared, and it was already past start time. So the other team's manager says if it's agreeable to both teams, he'll be a "neutral" referee for the game. We had not driven an hour and a half and waited around the field for 2 hours to not play a game, so we agreed. Little did we know that "neutral" meant not calling anything for either team. We spoke to him about it, and his response was, "it's difficult for me to make a call against my own players". If it is difficult for you to make calls, you should not have volunteered to ref. He let everything go and by the end of the game was saying, "I don't even care anymore whatever". The score ended up being 3-2, F.C. Orange winning. Our 2 goals were scored by Christian Guarino #11, and Patrick Stambaugh #24.

After what was quite frankly an embarrassing game, the home team left immediately and we were left to disassemble the nets, which again was their responsibility. On our way home, we got a call from the manager threatening one of our players.

Josh called the league president today to see if the game could be discounted. The president was with us 100%, and said that they had been having problems with this team. To top everything off, apparently the league had scheduled the game for 4:00pm, which is why the original referee left. He had not been informed by the manager that the time had changed. We were completely astounded by how unprofessionally run this game was, and succeeded in having it discounted. It will be rescheduled as a home game for F.C. Bergen.

At least I got some good pictures!

Uniforms

Team uniforms came today! I must say they are very professional looking, with the F.C. Bergen logo on the front and Adidas font. There are two uniforms, navy blue for home and white for away. Josh and I spent a few hours organizing everything. With the amount of stuff that was ordered, Eurosport sent a free training kit, with two sets of disc cones, four speed ladders, two sets of scrimmage vests, and a bag. The player passes were also made today. Pictures of the guys wearing them will be up soon!
